End of January search JFK to HNL

Summary: During the second week of January, when I did searches for a few days or one week in advance I got most inexpensive prices of less than $600 consistently, even for last minute flights. Now, prices have gone up slightly across the board and are around $1000 or more for last minute flights. Other than that, you can still get a flight to Hawaii for under $700 for the next few months.

March 26th - April 1st: $1100 way up - this is for Sunday to saturday. A flight from Monday to Friday is still in the $700 range

None of the other months have changed much yet.

Explained

What I am going to try to do with this blog is keep a weekly eye on the flight prices from various mainland cities to Hawaii, and from Hawaii to various mainland cities. I will do consolidator checking on Expedia because they have the nicest format, and also check the major airline rates. I'll check different dates and see if the prices change as certain events (like spring break, summer, christmas) get closer. I'll see if I can spot any weekday or weekend booking trends. I'll try to track specials and deals, so I can eventually say "This is traditionally the best time and way to buy your tickets" so you don't have to guess and try to get lucky.

Summary: In January, airline prices from New York to Hawaii (Oahu) for 1 to 10 nights run from $570 to about $800. Prices seem to be highest when leaving on weekends and lowest on Monday's and Tuesdays. Prices do not increase very much for spring break (not this far out anyway) but do go up for summer and come back down for fall/winter.

I did a search on Monday, 9 January 2005 and this is the generally average price I found using the Expedia Comparison Engine

February 5th - 11th: $560 with a high of $620 on Saturday the 11th

February 12th - 18th: $650 with a high of $708 on Saturday the 18th - best prices definitely earlier in the week

February 19th - 25th: $600 with a high price of $841 on Sunday the 19th

February 26th - March 4th: $650 with the prices getting steadily higher all week

March 5th - 11th: $680 with prices climbing all week

March 12th - 18th: $580 with a high of $740 leaving on Sunday and coming back on Saturday

March 19th - 25th: $740 with a high price of $959 on Friday the 24th

March 26th - April 1st: $700

Month of April: between 6 and 7 hundred dollars, with highest prices on the weekends

Month of May is same as April

In June and July, the prices jump significantly, always above $700 and frequently breaching $1000

Prices come back down in August and are even still about $600 around thanksgiving, at least this far out
